About the training

Our course Developmental Leadership – DL, which we offer in collaboration with the Swedish Defense University, is suitable for managers who want to develop people and achieve results in their leadership. You get an increased insight and awareness of your own leadership behaviors and learn to develop your employees with the goal of achieving higher efficiency, better results and more job satisfaction in the organization or work group. Developmental Leadership is about giving freedom without micromanaging your employees.

Developmental Leadership also provides insights into how I am perceived to handle stress and what behaviors I need to change.

About developmental leadership

Developmental Leadership is a leadership concept developed by the Swedish Defense University and is based on the American model of Transformational Leadership. Transformational leadership is characterized by the leader acting as a role model, raising issues of morality and ethics, and acting on a visible set of values. Mercuri International has worked with the Swedish Defense University’s concept since 2002 and currently work with a large number of multinational companies. We are proud to be the largest provider of Developmental Leadership training in English with a mix of leaders from all over the world.

Who should participate in this course?

The course is designed for managers at all levels who have responsibility for human resources, such as managers, supervisors or supervisory positions. However, you should have worked as a manager for at least 6 months before attending the course.

During the training you will…

  • Increase your self-awareness.
  • Work on and change your daily management behaviors.
  • Create motivation and give feedback to your employees.
  • Increase employee engagement and efficiency in your organization.
  • Become aware of how you function both as a person and as a leader.
  • Practice different leadership styles.
  • Learn methods that inspire commitment, motivation and responsibility.
  • Create a personal development plan.
  • Share experiences and lessons learned with leaders.

Format

 

3+1 days. 

The training starts with a Developmental Leadership Questionnaire (DLQ). The DLQ is a 360-degree survey in which the employees and the immediate supervisor assess the leader’s leadership behavior. The leader also makes a self-assessment.

With the insights from your DLQ, you learn how to change your leadership behaviors, provide support and become a more developing leader.

After about two months, a follow-up day takes place to help you with further reflection and exchange of experiences with other leaders. Between steps 1 and 2 you are offered individual telephone coaching.

During our training, we alternate short theory sessions with group discussions, exchange of experience and personal reflection. A large part of the training is carried out in groups of three with the aim of increasing personal reflection in so-called learning teams.

You will also receive coaching and support from one of our consultants.

During the training, active training takes place in relevant cases together with actors linked to Developmental Leadership.

Training with actors

To put theory into practice, you also get to train together with an actor, which is good when it comes to translating knowledge into skills. You will receive constant support and feedback from your trainer throughout the course and can ask questions.

Meals & Location

Our trainings take place in bright, fresh locations and between training sessions you are offered a generous lunch buffet and afternoon coffee in a nice and relaxed atmosphere. 

Diploma 

At the end of the course, you will be rewarded with a diploma from Mercuri International Business School and the Swedish Defence University showing your participation in the Developing Leadership course.
